Lincoln County Treasurer/Tax Collector, Kathy Hiatt, appeared before the County Commission at their regular meeting January 22 and said that bills reflecting the newly approved rate for Norcal’s solid waste trash collection service would be coming out in February. Last October Commissioners approved a rate increase for Norcal of 15 percent, instead of the requested 30 percent. The 15 percent increase means bills to county residents for landfill charges went from $120 to $138 a year, an extra $1.50 per month.
Mrs. Hiatt said her office usually sends the landfill bills out in January, but with the change she was unclear what the increase would mean to individual rate payers. As a result, the bills will be sent out in February, retroactive to January 1, 2008.
District Attorney Greg Barlow said Norcal has protested the lower 15 percent increase.
A public announcement about the 15 percent rate increase will be posted by the Commission for two weeks.
