Chamber of Commerce First Meeting of 2008
By Dave Maxwell, Staff Writer
The first meeting of the new year for the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce was held January 8 at the BLM Caliente Field Station. Tourism, and getting the word out about tourism, was the major theme.
Member Don Shanks reported that he has been talking with the production crew for the Nevada Passage adventure TV program. He said they plan to do some filming in Lincoln County this year, focusing on the Land Rover G4 Challenge, September 26-28, 2008 starting at Lovelock.
Holly Gatzke, of Caliente, gave a report on the Lincoln County Action Team (LCAT). They have been accepted as a project of the High Desert Research Council, which will help them in acquiring non-profit status and possibly find funding for a paid staff position.
She also said in March 2009, the International Gardeners Convention will be held in Las Vegas, and LCAT would like to see if they can provide pre-and-post convention tours to, and around, Lincoln County. These might be similar to the tours the group developed last fall, which they hope to market this coming spring and summer.
The next meeting of Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will be Tuesday, February 12 at 9:30 am at the Caliente BLM Field Station.
