Alamo Rodeo Park Bids

By Dave Maxwell, Staff Writer

Bids from prospective builders for the new Alamo rodeo grounds will be opened at a Friday, February 15 special meeting at the Alamo Ambulance Barn. County Grant Administrator Phyllis Robistow said she, Town Secretary Wendy Rudder, and Project Engineer Joe Leslie will open the bids and “read them out and see what we have. We’re hoping that we took enough things out of the project so that the bids come in at a reasonable amount.”

The Alamo Town Park Projects, of which the new rodeo grounds are a part, were originally planned to have been completed by one contractor. However, with the first group of bids late last November coming in at least $1 million over the amount of Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA) grant money available, the board decided they would have to split the projects into separate sections. The bid for the Alamo Children’s Park was recently awarded to Pearson Brothers Construction.

There is one stipulation that will be required of the company that receives the bid for the Rodeo grounds: the facility must be ready for use by the first of June, allowing enough time to get ready for the Wrangler Jr. High Division Nevada State Finals Rodeo to be held there. This will be the second year for Alamo hosting the Nevada Jr. High State Rodeo.
