Lincoln Girls lose to Needles. Beats Meadows

The Lady Lynx sewed up second place in the 2A girls Southern Division with a split on the road at Needles and Meadows February 8-9.

Coach Henry Frehner said the girls lost at Needles 65-57 after the Mustangs managed to stifle a late rally. Marissa Smerek had 25 points and 11 rebounds. Teammate Mary Mathews scored 12 points.

Louise Solomon was the leading scorer for Needles with 15. Mae Marquez and Tara Bracket both added 12 points.

At The Meadows, Frehner said, he played most of his subs to give them more experience and won 47-35. “I played everybody in different shifts,” he said. Aubrey Church had 12 points and Alyssa Garcia scored 10.

The Lincoln girls, Number 2 seed at Regionals, will face White Pine at 3:00 Friday afternoon at Del Sol High School. Needles and West Wendover play at 6:20 pm. The Friday winners play Saturday at 3:20 pm for seeding into the State tournament February 22-23 in Reno.
