Lincoln Free Throws in OT beats Needles
By Dave Maxwell, Staff Writer
Freshman Dantley Walker scored 22 of his season-high 39 points in the fourth quarter and all of the Lynx points in overtime, to rally Lincoln County to a thrilling 87-83 win at Needles February 8.
The Mustangs led most of the game, but when Walker caught fire, the Lynx just made a nuisance of themselves that wouldn’t go away. With 16 seconds remaining in regulation, Needles had the ball with the game tied at 81. But they missed a last shot and
Walker picked up the loose ball in back court and tried a 3-pointer that was in-and-out, sending the game into overtime.
Lincoln County (16-6) ruled in the extra period, and Walker made six straight free throws in the final 30 seconds to secure the win for the Lynx. Dantley finished a perfect 12 for 12 at the free throw line.
Stevie Kidd led Needles (16-6) with 25 points. Lincoln County did a good job in holding the normally high scoring Darra Russell (23.7 ppg average) to only 16 points.
Eric Rippetoe had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Lincoln.
