PVHS Wins A/2A Southern Region Wrestling

Pahranagat Valley won their firstever A/2A Southern Regional Wrestling title February 1-2 at Alamo. The Panthers earned 184 points to outdistance White Pine with 152.5 points. Lincoln County was in sixth place with 106 points.
The top four finishers in each weight class go to the NIAA State Tournament in Laughlin February 8-9. The Panthers will send ten men and Lincoln will send four.
It is the first time Alamo hosted the Southern Regional’s and sending 10 to state is a special accomplishment for Coach Brad Loveday. He said his three seniors had an “awesome tournament. They have been our team leaders all year long and they just do an awesome job.”
Lincoln Coach, Mason Stackhouse, said the Lynx have been in a rebuilding year, starting with only three returning letterman from last year to a team of 14 wrestlers this year, but most who had only one or two years experience.
PVHS wrestlers and their spots seeded into the state tournament include:
- Trey Turley, #2 at 103-lbs.
- Jenson Jones, #1 at 112-lbs.
- Roy Lasike, #2 at 119-lbs.
- Mike Sparrow, #4 at 119-lbs.
- Dane Mulliner (defending state champ), #1 at 125-lbs.
- William Miller, #4 at 145-lbs.
- Jay Leavitt, #3 at 152-lbs.
- Nathan Whipple, #3 at 160-lbs.
- Austin Hortt, #4 at 171-lbs.
- Isaac Spencer, #1 at 189-lbs.
- Cory Shumway, #2 at 285-lbs.
From Lincoln County:
- Zach Hunter, #1 at 130-lbs.
- Matt Jones, #3 at 140-lbs.
- Will Miller, #4 at 145-lbs.
- Nathan Miller, #3 at 285-lbs.
