Trinity Boys 49 PVHS 34

The lowest score of the season and just about the coldest shooting effort also, simply buried the Panthers at Trinity February 1. Coach Brian Higbee said nothing seemed to go right. “It’s the poorest we’ve shot all year. We came out flat and stayed flat. We couldn’t get going anywhere.” Alamo was 11 of 62 from the floor (18.7 percent), but 10 of 17 at the foul line (59 percent).

However, Higbee said the Panthers played well defensively. PVHS only allowed Trinity 20 points in the first half. Problem was, Alamo only had 12 points.

Higbee said it was “just one of those games.” Still, the Panthers did close the gap in the fourth quarter to only four points with six minutes remaining, but could not get the tie or take the lead. Higbee said the boys played tough and never gave up.

Trinity was lead by Budweiser Hawkins with 14 points and Travis Kersenbrock had 10. Taylor Poulsen was high point for Alamo with eight points.

In their final league game of the season, February 2, the Panthers beat Laughlin 46-43 in a game where the score looks a lot closer than the game really was. Higbee said he played most of his reserves and JV kids, to give the varsity some much needed rest. He said with the team leading by 14-15 points, he put the main players on the bench and used the subs. Ryan Hatch was the leading scorer for Alamo with 10 points. Laughlin made a late run, but time ran out.

The loss to Trinity drops Alamo (16-6, 6-4) into third place in the league, the same as last year, and means they will play at the Number 2 seed from the Central league, most likely Spring Mountain, (13-11, 7-2) on February 13 at 6 pm in the first round of the 1A Southern Regionals.
