Lincoln County Sheriff Kerry Lee, who also serves as Fire Chief in Panaca, reported that the Panaca Fire District recently received a 1980’s Ford 1000-gallon pumper truck and other items from the Mesquite Fire Department. The Mesquite Fire Chief, whom Lee has been friends with for a long time, called him and offered to donate the items to the Panaca Fire District if they thought they would be of use. The Mesquite Fire Department had the truck and numerous fire equipment pieces, such as, nozzles, salvage tarps and fittings to dispose of.

Panaca is using the engine right now and will look through the other items to determine what Panaca can use. The remainder will be offered to the other departments in the County. Lee said some of the items are new, some used, and some were being replaced with another brand of the same item.

He said that since Panaca has recently expanded their district to cover over 300 square miles, “It was nice to get this other engine that we eventually want to put in the Indian Ridge, Highland Knolls area.”

Lee said a Thank You letter is being prepared to send to the Mesquite Fire Department and City Council expressing their appreciation for the donated items.
