Alamo Rodeo Grounds Bid Awarded
By Dave Maxwell, Staff Writer
Hardy Construction of Las Vegas submitted the low bid and was awarded the contract for the construction of the new Alamo Rodeo grounds. County Grant Administrator Phyllis Robistow reported at the February 19 County Commission meeting that Hardy’s base bid was $1,047,904.24.
The rodeo grounds will be built first. It must be ready for the Wrangler Junior Nevada State Finals Rodeo in June. The new softball fields on the site of the old rodeo grounds will come later.
Ms. Robistow said there is enough money to build most of what is needed for the rodeo grounds. However, in order to build permanent bleachers and an announcer’s booth, the County will need to apply for an additional $400,000 from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Agency’s special reserve account. Alamo Town Board Secretary Wendy Rudder said that the rodeo club does have a set of temporary bleachers that can be used this year, but extra money will be needed to build an announcer’s booth.
A contract would be ready for the Commissioners to sign by the March 4 meeting, Ms. Robistow said. Ground breaking work could begin sometime in March. The subcontractor for Hardy Construction would be Bearing Point Construction, headed by Tyler Mason of Alamo.
