County Addressing Plan Update
By Dave Maxwell, Staff Writer
County Planning Director Clint Wertz reported March 3 to the County Commissioner that assigning new addresses to all the necessary buildings, businesses, lots, and residents in Pioche has been completed.
Actually implementing the new numbers will not be done until Commissioners have reviewed, and approved, the completed project. “The time when people will actually have to physically post those new address numbers still has to be determined,” Clint said. With Pioche completed, the town of Alamo is next for the new addressing work.
The Planning Department will provide people with the new numbers that are to be displayed at their property. Having the new numbers posted will also be important when applying for a new building permit
Wertz has said previously that the new numbering project will seek to keep the names of existing streets and roads, although in some cases, new names will have to be adopted and signs put up as quickly as possible. He did admit that it may take a bit longer for signs to be put up on some of the outlying roads around the County.
Wertz mentioned for places such as trailer parks, each space will be assigned a number or a letter as a sub-character off the main number where the park begins. He said in the case of vacant buildings or living units, those also will be given an address.
The overall-all purpose of the project, in addition to preparing for the upcoming U.S. Census, is to help with the countywide Enhanced 911 system enabling emergency services to respond faster to a location because of knowing a given address on a given street or road.
In other action, Commissioners:
- Approved entering into a Memorandum of Agreement between Lincoln County and the Lincoln County Rural Development Association wherein the LCRDA will provide $67,500 from the Nevada Commission on Economic Development grant monies to the County for engineering services at the Alamo Industrial Park.
- Appointed Ross Sterling of Alamo and Steven Combs of Pioche to the Lincoln County Planning Commission.
- Accepted the recommendation of the Planning Commission to hire the professional services of planning consultant Mark White of Kansas City, Missouri, to review proposed development agreements at an amount not to exceed $10,000.
