Pahranagat Valley didn’t get to see how they would fare against The Meadows for the championship of the Panther Tournament March 8 because the Mustangs forfeited the game and went home. Panther Coach Brad Loveday said The Meadows “ran out of pitching and forfeited.”
Mountain View, The Meadows, Carlin and PVHS were the four teams involved in the season opening tourney. On Friday, the Panthers beat Mountain View 8-3 and took a come-from-behind win over The Meadows 10-6.
On Saturday, PVHS used quite a few of their younger players in beating Carlin 12-8 and were to play The Meadows in the finals, but the Mustangs said they had used all their pitchers. Even though state rules would have allowed more innings by the pitchers, The Meadows decided to forfeit. Loveday said he understood the reasoning. “It’s just two weeks into the season and you just don’t want to ruin a kid over trying to get some more innings out of him.”
Loveday said he was pleased with the teams poise and composure after falling behind and battling back. “We’ve obviously lost a lot of kids from last year but we still have quite a few talented kids remaining.”
Alamo plays in the Moapa Wood Bat Tourney in Overton March 14-15.
