Pioche Park Engineers to Review LC Fair and Rodeo Grounds in Panaca
By Dave Maxwell, Staff Writer
Lumos and Associates Engineering of Reno, selected last December to be the engineers for the Pioche Town Park, has been recommended as the firm to carry out engineering and design work for the Lincoln County Fair and Rodeo Grounds in Panaca.
At the March 3 County Commission meeting County Grant Administrator Phyllis Robistow said that she had $34,000 in grant money that could be used to have Lumos and Associates Engineering look at the fair grounds.
Robistow said that she and County Manager John Lovelady made the suggestion because “Lumos is a very creative and imaginative engineer. This is to get us a design to see what we could do and give us an in-the-ball park cost estimate so that I can go for a full grant to do a project.”
At the same time, Ms. Robistow said that Lincoln County’s requests for project grant money to the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA) were ranked fifth for a park upgrade for the D.C. Day Park in Rachel and the Pioneer Park in Panaca, and 12th for adding some more campsites at Echo Park.
On March 4, Phyllis also gave an update to the Pioche Town Board about current negotiations with Lumos and what they might charge for the Pioche Park Project. Upgrades for the children’s play equipment are needed, along with a cover over the train, new picnic area, upgrade of restrooms, water fountains, fixing the wall, etc.; however no prices have been discussed, as yet.
