The Lady Lynx played at the St. George Tournament March 14-15. Coach Pat Kelly said the team won four games there and lost one. Kelly said the Lynx beat East High of Salt Lake (a 4A school) 17-2. The game was called after 3 innings by the 10-run rule. Lincoln lost to Emery High later on Friday 8-7. Kelly said Emery had a 7-run fourth inning to come from behind for the win.
On Saturday, Kelly said Logan, Utah failed to show up for the early morning game and had to forfeit. Lincoln beat Gunnerson, Utah 8-0 in their second scheduled Saturday game and then played Logan, a make-up game from the one they missed in the morning. Kelly said it was really more of a scrimmage game, “Just for practice for about an hour and it ended up 1-1.”
Back into tournament play later Saturday afternoon, Lincoln played Beaver for second place in their division and came away with an 8-7 win, managing to shut off a 3-run Beaver rally in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Camille Sonnenberg and Kori Gloeckner were again the main pitchers for the Lady Lynx with Camille registering all the wins.
Coach Dan Lloyd and the Lynx baseball team played games at Enterprise and Parowan on March 11-12. Lloyd said his team is very young this year fielding mostly freshman and sophomores. Enterprise won 10-9 by getting the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. At Parowan the boys lost, but Coach Lloyd said he did not remember the score.
Even though his team is young, Lloyd said, “We’re playing a lot of bigger teams to try to get us ready for our league.” Lloyd feels the team to beat in the 2A Southern this year will be Needles, the 2007 state runner-up. The Mustangs graduated only one senior.
Both Lincoln baseball and softball had games on March 19, during spring break. The boys played at Enterprise, Utah, while the girls hosted Milford, Utah.
