Obituary Notice
for
Jerry Evan Sampson
June 09, 1942 – February 19, 2007 Jerry Evan Samson passed away at home February 19, 2007. He was born June 9, 1942 in Nevada Iowa to Keesee Fred Samson and Lillian Irene Jones Samson. He attended school in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School where he held the school record for the discus for around 40 years. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart Charon Lee Wycoff in 1962. He joined the California Highway Patrol in 1966, transferred to the Nevada Highway Patrol in 1972 and was stationed in Caliente Nv. He quit the NHP in 1979 and went to work for UPS until the time of his death. He also served as a member of the Lincoln County School Board for several terms. He was a member of the local Masonic lodge for many years.
He loved Lincoln County for the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing and just roaming the hills to look at the ever changing scenery every year. His other hobbies included shooting and was a member of the local gun clubs. In his younger years he had a avid love for flying and had his own plane. In the winter months he spent long sessions on the computer. He thoroughly enjoyed professional sports and spent many hours in front of the TV, he enjoyed it so much it was necessary to get another TV so his wife could watch something else.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 older brothers.
He is survived in death by his wife Charon, son Aaron (Angelina) Samson of Caliente and daughter Lacee Samson Pierce of Aurora, Co. and 9 grandchildren. |

Richard Wilcox
July 23, 1931 – January 03, 2007
After winning four battles with cancer, a heart attack took his life.
Richard was born in the Railroad town of Caliente, NV. to Frank (prof) and Mary Wilcox. The Caliente area provided Richard with the space for many Boyhood adventures and a job for the Union Pacific Railroad.
His railroad experiences turned him into a train buff with a special interest in steam engines.
Richard attended Lincoln County High School and was one of two delegates chosen to represent Nevada at Boys’s Nation in Washington, D.C. In 1949, as Valedictorian, he received the Harold’s Club Scholarship which brought him to Reno to attend UNR.
Richard earned a double major in Chemistry and Business Administration . During the Korean War, Richard served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the Chemical Corps. After considering various career options, Richard chose a career in the teaching profession where he acquired the nickname of “Mr. Wizard”. He taught 27 years, a dedicated educator who loved his profession and students.
As a advocate for teachers and education, he was a member of the Washoe County Teachers’s Association. He served as a building representative and spent countless hours working on the issues to help elevate his profession.
In retirement he enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of his Verdi home, grew killer tomatoes, and delighted in the lives and accomplishments of his grandchildren.
Richard survived by his wife, Bertha; children Sharon Marie Wilcox, Rick Murdock (wife, Thea), Debbie Murdock, and grandchildren, Britton, Brigitte, McKain, Nicolas and Keelia
