Rachel UFO Conference Still Planned
By Dave Maxwell, Staff Writer
Last week’s report in The RECORD that the Rachel UFO Conference would not be held this year was incorrect. Organizer, and host, Ike Bishop of Boise informed The RECORD that the Rachel conference will be held May 23-25, and another will follow in Alamo August 29-31.
During a telephone interview, Bishop said the Rachel event will take place as it has for the past seven years. At the Rachel event he said, “Some of the people like to be there, to be right on the boundary line of Area 51. That’s kind of mysterious for them…The sky watches we’ve held there have been very productive. We have usually seen something. And just being able to be out in the desert air at night, it’s so magnificent there in May. Special speakers at Rachel,” he said “will include Jim Sparks, Chris O’Brien and Ralph Ring.”
The Alamo conference over Labor Day weekend, is expected to draw between 200-250 people and will be centered at the Senior Citizens Center and involve top-flight guest speakers and seminar sessions.
Bishop said the response for the Alamo conference has been overwhelming and those that want to have been booking rooms at local motels. “There is a contingency of conference goers that want the things that Alamo has to offer,” he said. “There are two people from Germany who have already signed up and booked rooms for the Alamo conference,” Bishop noted. In addition, some people have signed up to attend both events.
In regards to each of the conferences, Bishop said, “UFO people will come a long way to hear really good speakers and I try to recruit the hottest speakers on the circuit.”
He said coming to Rachel and Alamo is certainly off the beaten path, but “people enjoy coming to the out-of-the-way places because it gets them away from the sterile environment of hotels” in the larger towns and cities. In Lincoln County, the conference goers can walk or drive around as they want and be free to go see the sights.
