Pahranagat Elementary Mile Run

On April 18 at 10 a.m., the Pahranagat Elementary Mile Run will be held, beginning and ending at the Elementary School. Event organizer Tanya Mortensen said she has been told morning news anchor Dave McCann of KLAS-TV in Las Vegas will be here to cover the run as part of his morning segment, “What’s Cool in School?” Mrs. Mortensen said McCann plans to run in the event with the students. She said McCann was informed about the Alamo event and contacted the school expressing his interest in covering the story for his news program.

Mrs. Mortensen said what they are doing at PV Elementary is somewhat different, because not many schools statewide are able to have PE every day like Alamo does. “Because of our unique four-day school week, we are able to do that,” she said. Kari Mortensen and Gary Jorgensen are teaching PE to the elementary students in grades 1-5 and “running is something they really wanted to get going,” she added. “It’s basically an opportunity for the kids to show their parents what they have been able to accomplish in PE.”

The course will be from the school to Main Street, east along Main to 2nd North, west to Park Boulevard and back to the school.
