After pouring 27,500 square feet of concrete around Jerry’s Sinclair Station and Convenience Store and J & J’s Fast Food restaurant, Jerry Maeder says his next project is to construct a two-story 14-unit motel, just south of the gas station.
Jerry, along with his daughter Tammy, has owned the business since 1988 and currently employees 18 people. Now Jerry is building a new motel right along the highway. Phase One he said will be the first 14 units and if need be, “we’ll make Phase Two and put in another 14 units,” he said.
Jerry feels there is still a need for more rooms in Caliente. He hopes the new motel will catch the attention of more tourists and prompt them to stay overnight in Caliente.
Maeder said construction should start the last week in April and the motel might be ready for occupancy by late July. The cement work around the existing buildings is to improve parking and “make it easier for the people,” he said. “Everybody says it’s just fantastic, best thing we’ve ever done. We got rid of all the potholes.” In addition, Jerry thanks the public for being patient with the inconveniences while the cement work was completed.
