Dessie spent her early childhood with her grandparents, Tom & Ella Petty, who loved her dearly. She attended high school at Pahranagat Valley High School where she was a cheerleader and active in student government. While in Alamo, she lived with Bill and Freda Schofield and Clark and Mary Lou Hardy, who with their families, helped make Dessie's high school years happy and fulfilling.

After graduation in 1974, she attended Evans Cosmetology College and taught there after her graduation. She was a hair stylist in Las Vegas for many years. She married James Franklin in 1976, later divorced. She married Gail Hampton in 1982, later divorced. She met the love of her life, Charles Bertram, in 1998 and they spent ten happy years together.

Dessie was so proud of her children and especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren, who were such a source of delight and happiness. She was wonderful with youth and spent many years as a young women leader. She loved music and lead a marvelous regional childrens' choir in Las Vegas for several years.

She loved gardening and she and Charlie spent many hours beautifying their yard in California; planting flowers, shrubs, and trees. They enjoyed traveling, camping and sightseeing as they and their much-loved dogs explored the Unites States. At the time of her death, they were looking forward to retirement in Cody, Wyoming.

Dessie was a joyous fun-loving person who lit up every room she walked into. She was sweet and kind, with a great love of life. How we will miss her!
