Caliente City Parks to Rebid; Projects Put on Hold Until After Homecoming
By Dave Maxwell, Staff Writer
Grant Administrator Phyllis Robistow reported to the April 21 County Commission meeting that the bids for two of the city parks projects came back far over the budgeted amount the city has to spend. Dixon Park was $1.4 million over and Rose Park was $220,000 over.
“Basically what we’re going to do is what we did for Alamo,” she said, “come up with a list of things we absolutely have to have and those we don’t and then add everything into a list to go for a second phase of SNPLMA (Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act) funding.”
The City of Caliente has decided to wait until after the May 22-26 Homecoming festivities before beginning the work on the new city park projects reported Caliente City Councilman Keith Larson. One event from the announced schedule will be changed, there will be no swimming at the pool May 24 or May 26 as the pool will still be closed.
Larson said the theme for the Saturday parade is “There’s no place like Home…coming” and said the Grand Marshall’s will all be women named Dorothy who have participated in Caliente’s volunteer programs. Mr. Larson declined to say who and how many Dorothy’s that would mean.
The Lincoln County Homecoming Committee has since announced this year’s Homecoming Grand Marshals. In keeping with the theme for Homecoming Weekend “There’s No Place like Home…coming” the committee is proud to honor the beautiful “Dorothys” that have given so much of their lives to the community.
The Grand Marshals are: Dorothy Phillips, Dorothy Ray, Dorothy Roberts, Dorothea Rowe and Dorothy Synsteby, all of Caliente. Please take the opportunity to greet these ladies and thank them for a lifetime of service to our area.
