Obituary Notice
for
Elsie Kayen Ahlstrom
May 4, 1934 - May 30, 2008

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Elsie Kayen Ahlstrom passed away from this earth life May 30, 2008 at her home in Rush Valley, Utah surrounded by her family and friends.

She was born May 4, 1934 in Caliente, Nevada to Wesley and Eva Hyde Kayen. Within months of her birth the family moved to Tempiute to open and run the Lincoln mine. She lived there for most of her youth. She married James Gary Ahlstrom October 14, 1955 in St. John, Utah. They were sealed together in the Provo LDS Temple May 12, 1973.

Together they raised five children. Elsie served in many church callings throughout her life as the Stake Primary President, Primary teacher, Scout leader, Relief Society Compassionate Service leader and Relief Society visiting teacher in the Rush Valley Ward.

She was a granddaughter of one of the founding families of Alamo, Nevada and a granddaughter of the founder of Hyde Park Utah. She was the great granddaughter of an early US marshal of the Utah Territory and of many early Morman pioneers including Apostle Orson Pratt. Perhaps more importantly, she was a mother and grandmother to everyone. Her door was always open to anyone who stopped in for breakfast, lunch or dinner. She will be greatly missed, but her caring example will stay with us forever.

She loved to camp, hike, watch old movies, and visit with friends and family. She taught by example and served others with genuine love.

She is survived by her husband Gary of 52 years; her daughters Connie Hickman of Rush Valley, Utah, Marjorie (Dale) Iverson of Riverton, Utah, Terri Ahlstrom of Rush Valley, Utah, her sons John Gary (Tammy) Ahlstrom of Caliente, Nevada, Wiley Jeff (Kristen) Ahlstrom of Buckeye, Arizona, sister Patricia (John) Dymock of Tooele, Utah; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, one grandson Elder John Geoffrey Ahlstrom serving in the Canada Calgary Mission. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Robert and Norman Kayen.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, June 4 at the Rush Valley Ward. Interment was at the St. John Cemetery, Rush Valley, Utah.
