Obituary Notice
for
Dorothy Ruth Miller Phillips
November 21, 1923 – July 16, 2008

Dorothy Ruth Miller Phillips was born on November 21st, 1923 in Milford, Utah the third child of Charles and Dorothy Miller, and she passed away peacefully at her home in Caliente, NV on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at the age of 84. With her life-long companion of 62 years Donald at her side; this loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was surrounded by those she loved at the time of her passing. She had struggled for the past several years with a debilitating illness. However, she remained at home under the care and supervision of her children and loving husband. Through all of her health struggles, she remained engaged, happy, and deeply involved with her family and their accomplishments, attending graduations, weddings, and family gatherings.
Dorothy clerked at the Caliente Five and Dime store for several years shortly after high school. Later during World War II, she worked in the shop yard for the Union Pacific Railroad in Caliente. Additionally, she worked as a maid at Hotel Scott in Caliente and frequently managed the hotel for its owners. Dorothy was very active in her community, county, and state having served on many political and civic committees. In rural Nevada, she was looked upon as one of the matriarchs of the Democratic Party and was courted by many for her support. As a civic leader, she participated in many worthwhile fund-raising philanthropic efforts. For 26 years, she served as the Director of the Caliente Senior Citizen Center during which time she had a senior housing development named in her honor, "Dorothy Phillips Manor". In 1995, she had the honor of attending the White House Conference on Aging as one of nine delegates representing the needs and interests of Nevada's seniors. She was a proud member of the Caliente United Methodist Church and was active in the Women's' Society of Christian Service. However, of all her accomplishments, her proudest is the legacy of her family. Sharing the joy of raising five sons and two daughters with her husband, Donald. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Donald K. Phillips, their children: Michael (Mary Ellen) Phillips, (Leslie Phillips), Randy (LeAnn) Phillips, Scott Phillips, Rick (Cheryl) Phillips, Pam (Lynn) Jackson, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Phillips Miller, sister Margaret Clements and her son (Donald) Gary Phillips and daughter Kathy Phillips Buttram.
Funeral services will be held in Caliente, Nevada on Monday July 21st at 11:00 am (PST), at the Lloyd C. Denton Building. Viewing will be Sunday July 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Monday July 21st from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Southern Nevada Mortuary in Caliente. Wilford Lee Cantrell
May 5, 1921 - July 22, 2008

Wilford Lee Cantrell passed away on July 22, 2008 at the age of 87. He was born on May 5, 1921 to Andrew and Evie Cantrell in Missouri. During WWII, he served with the Army Air Corps.
Wilford and Helen lived in Caliente for over 40 years. During this time he worked at the Caliente youth center doing most of the landscaping. He also took care of Caliente's Veterans Cemetery for over 30 years. He was a member of NRA and worked for Union Pacific. He was a great prospector and outdoors man hunting rabbits, deer and quail.
He is survived by his children Bill (Kathryn) Cantrell of Las Vegas, NV., and Barbara (Wayne) Scherer of Brandon, OR. Along with 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Helen. His sisters Marge Thornton and Frieda Hawkins, along with one brother Carl Cantrell.
Graveside services will be held around Labor Day under the direction of Southern Nevada Mortuary. In lieu of flowers make a contribution to the Caliente VFW.

Margaret Lorena Orr Contri
May 19, 1935 – July 7, 2008

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Margaret Contri, died peacefully in the early morning of July 7, 2008. She fought her battle with cancer bravely over the past six weeks with her family and friends continually by her side. She was 73 years old. Born in Ely, NV on May 19, 1935 and raised in Pioche, NV, Margie was the youngest of six children born to Robert Roy Orr, Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth Orr. She graduated from Lincoln County High School (1953) and the University of Nevada, Reno (1957) with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Upon graduation, she married Ted Contri and a year later their daughter, Elizabeth, was born.
Margie began her career as a teacher for the Washoe County School District and in 1978 she completed her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Nevada, Reno. She was an acclaimed educator who was highly regarded by her peers and students. Teaching children to read was her passion and her patience and tenacity brought about their success. After 31 years of teaching at Sun Valley and Greenbrae Elementary Schools, Margie retired in 2001.
She spent her retirement years celebrating the many achievements and activities of her four grandchildren. Their journey brought her continual joy and happiness. She was a 50 year member of the Mizpah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, 45 year member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Reno, the past President of the Theta Theta Chapter of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, and active member of PEO Chapter I, ADK, and the Daughters of the Nile. Margie was also a steward of environmental causes.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Roy and Bertha Orr, her brothers Bill, John (Marion), and Robert (Evelyn), and her sister Marian (Tim) Griffin. Her survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth, (son-in-law Gary), her four grandchildren Rusty, Aimee, Christopher and Sophia, her sister Helen (Duane) Laubach, sister- in-law Jean Orr, family friend Doug Gentry and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all of the family and friends who showed their extraordinary love and support at this time. There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, July 18, at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall after the service. Over Labor Day weekend a Celebration of Life will be held at the Episcopal Church and a graveside service will be held at the Masonic Cemetery in Pioche, NV.

Estelle Delubina Emerine
May 10, 1912 – July 16, 2008

Stella (Estelle Delubina) Emerine, age 96, passed away on July 16, 2008. She was born on May 10, 1912, to Ramoneita Romero and Gomez Epimenio in Mogote, Colorado.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband Frank Lee Emerine and children Ramona Gordon, Candido Emerine, Lee Emerine, and Bonnie Emerine. She is survived by her children Rosa Dannagan (Bud) of Summers, Arkansas, Frank- Mike- Emerine (Shirley) of Pioche, Nevada, and Teresa Herbert (Jack) of Payson, Utah. Stella is also survived by her 28 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Stella enjoyed visiting with her neighbors, friends, and family. Graveside services and interment were held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 1:00 pm at the Pioche Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Southern Nevada Mortuary

Ulrich "Rick" Jones
February 6, 1933 – July 17, 2008

Rick was born in Knoxville, TN on February 6, 1933 to Bertha and Jessie Jones; he moved to California in 1952 and served 2 years in the Navy. He married the love of his life, Linda Elliott, in 1953 and they had three children: Victor (Donna) Jones, Jeanine (deceased) Jones, Elizabeth (John) Ferguson.
He was in the automotive business all his life and owned his own shop. After moving to Hawaii in 1989 he became involved in the recycling business which was a continuing passion until the day he died. He moved to Caliente in 2002 with the promise of opening a recycling plant here.
He was a member of Agape Baptist Church and he loved going every week and “getting his Sunday tuneup.”
He is preceded in death by his wife Linda, daughter Jeanine, mother Bertha, father Jessie, sisters Helen and Bessie, and brother Erin. He is survived by his son Victor (Donna) and Elizabeth (John); brothers Carl and Jesse, Jr.; sisters Sally and Juanita. He has six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held in Caliente, July 19th at 4pm at the Agape Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Russ Turner. Graveside services will be held in Glendale, CA August 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
He is greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Anne Montogomery Kay
Marcy 4, 1938 – July 19, 2008

Catherine Anne Montgomery Kay, age 70, passed away July 19, 2008 in Provo, Utah.
Anne was born March 4, 1938 in Pioche, Nevada to Fountain Jay and Mary Anne Lunt Montgomery. She married Darwin A. Kay on December 22, 1956. He died August 27, 2003.
Anne was an excellent seamstress. She was known all over central Utah for making gorgeous custom draperies. She crocheted and donated many beanie hats for the homeless. Anne loved working in the Daughter’s of the Utah Pioneers Museum in Nephi.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cheerfully served in many callings, notably in the Relief Society presidency and for many years as the compassionate service leader.
She will be missed by many.
Anne is survived by her sons, Shaun and Steve Kay; grand children, McKell Kay and Kristofer Kay; step-children, Darwin (Coleen) Ogden; Kevon (Jessie) Ogden; Ellen (Charles) Jenkins; Twin brother, Tom (Lillian) Montgomery; sisters, Carmen Wise, Mary J. Lee, Martha Wiebe. Preceded in death by her husband Darwin A. Kay and brother, Austin Merryweather.
Graveside services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, July 25, 2008 in the Mona Cemetery. Friends and family may call Friday from 10-11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W 300 N Nephi, UT.
