Sam Jay Johnston, age 89, died August 2, 2007 at his daughters' residence in Fallon in the presence of his family.

He was born September 2, 1917 in St. George, UT to John Jay and Edith Pearl Tullis Johnston, and had lived in Fallon for 1 year, coming from Alamo, NV where he had lived for more than 20 years. He had also lived in Logandale, NV; Carp, NV; Las Vegas and Yerington, NV.

While living in Las Vegas he worked for the Power Company and while in Yerington worked for the Phone Company.

Sam was a rancher and loved hunting, fishing, trapping and camping. He also loved to play checkers.

He was married to his wife Mable for 70 years. She passed away in August, 2006.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Ann Hodges (Larry) of Fallon; sons, Jerry Sam and Jack Jay both of Alamo, NV and so, Lee Neil of Logandale; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Walter Houston and brothers, Hughie and Robert Houston and Clifford Freemyer; granddaughter Crystal Johnston and grandson Mitchel Johnston.

A private family gathering will be held. Burial will be in the Logandale Cemetery in Logandale, Nevada under the direction of Smith Funeral Home & Crematory in Fallon. 423-2255.
