Grover C. Dils Medical Center Given 5 Star Rating By Theresa Stout, Staff Writer
Grover C. Dils Medical Center was given a 5 star rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. They were in the top 4 in Southern Nevada and 1 of 7 in the state. When asked what it takes to get a 5 star rating, Hospital Administrator Jason Bleak stated he thought a lot had to do with the fact that until 2008 inspections have been spotless, with no deficiencies. The deficiencies they did have in 2008 were all addressed and at the next inspection, they passed with excellence. The rating is based on three critical areas: health inspection results, quality measures and staffing levels. Nursing homes are inspected every 15 months. While the rating is not the only factor in choosing a facility, it does address some very important factors in deciding on a care center for loved ones.
Congratulations to the staff and facility on earning this rating.
The rating comes as new board members begin their responsibilities. Mr. Bleak went before the Lincoln County Commissioners, January 5th to gain their approval of the hospitals choice, from Pioche, for the new hospital board member. Robert Sidford was approved as the newest hospital board member.
Mr. Bleak had gone to the Commissioners December 4th, because the hospital board had three retiring members Steve Rowe, Gordon Wadsworth, and Mary Lloyd. The Commissioners approved the hospitals choice Ty Mizer of Caliente, and Shawn Frehner of Panaca but asked that the existing board Interview the choices from Pioche Paul Donahue, Glen Zelch, and Robert Sidford.
At the hospital board meeting on January 6th, the newest members were sworn in and business commenced as usual, well maybe with a little more paperwork. The newest members Shawn Frehner, Joseph Ty Mizer, and Robert Sidford joined existing members Ed Maloy and Kevin Smith. Mr. Maloy has 26 years with the hospital board and Kevin Smith has been on the board 2 years. The new board was given a lot to think about in respects to where the hospital is going and wants to go and this will be discussed at the next board meeting in February.
