Results of the Lincoln County 4-H Events and Gymkhana
By Gina Smith Contributing Writer
Have you ever noticed the logo of 4-H? It is a four-leaf clover with an H in every leaf. The 4-leaf clover in itself is very rare to find, maybe because there are so many clovers around, a four leaf one is a treasure amongst the many. The motto to the 4-H is Head, Hands, Heart, and Health.
The 4-H was a big part of the 2009 Fair. The kids worked long and hard to show off their projects and accomplishments.
This year there are several first place winners, which received the top performance for their category, and a blue ribbon is first place.
In the 4-H horse show competition, the results are: Kaitlyn Ames received a blue ribbon in Showman, Trail, Barrels and Poles. Skye Collins received a first place in poles, and a blue ribbon in the final, showman, western equitation, trail and barrels. Thomas Gloeckner received a red ribbon in all of his events. Nathan Husey received a blue ribbon in showman, trail and barrels. Kevin Mathews received a first place in Showman, Trails, Horsemanship, and Barrels. In the senior division, Lehi Wadsworth received a grand champion for final, a blue ribbon for western equitation, horsemanship, and barrels, western pleasure and poles. Moroni Wadsworth received a reserve championship in final, a blue ribbon in trails, poles, Western Equitation and barrels. What a full day of packed events it was for these kids!
The livestock-judging contest was another fun event. Each contestant had the opportunity to look over livestock, made comparison notes on each one, and then quizzed on their assessment on the animal. Some of the categories were on color, fat content, horns versus no horns, etc. The results for that contest are: Logan Center received Senior Grand Champion; Kelsie Mathews received senior Reserve Champion. Tia Florance, Moroni Wadsworth, Madison Mathews, Nephi Wadsworth, received blue ribbons, Nathan Hisey and Kevin Mathews received red ribbons, and Joy Wadsworth received Jr. Grand Champion, and Nathaniel Frehner received Jr. Reserve Champion.
The Gymkhana also had a great turnout of 42 contestants to compete in five events. The kids and young adult's events at the fair were exciting to see. From the fun contestants had, to the organizers, to the family members that came out in the hot summer sun to lend a supportive hand. To see their achievements grow from year to year, reminds us once again that our kids are our future, a very wise investment.
