Governor Gibbons to Visit in Caliente

Governor Jim Gibbons plans to be in Caliente on Thursday, September 13th to take part in the meeting of the Rural Taskforce to the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security. This meeting will be at 1:30 pm at the Caliente City Hall.
Chairman Bob Fisher will open the meeting with a call to order and roll call and then Governor Gibbons will present some comments on Homeland Security as it applies to Nevada and in particular to the rural communities in the state. Discussion will follow.
The meeting will also be teleconferenced to other Homeland Security participants in the state who are unable to travel to Caliente.
Bob Fisher and Larry Casey will present an overview of grant funds for Homeland Security and Mr. Casey will provide a legislative update to review the results of the last Nevada state legislative session.
A status report on Statewide Interoperable Communications will be given to fill in where the implementation of the SIC project stands.
Valerie Sumner, of Nevada Homeland Security, will report on the Citizens Corp activities in the state and discuss the ongoing development of the Citizen Corp Council.
Tanya Williams will report on the local health and medical response programs and review the available resources and programs from the Nevada Division of Health Services focused on improving local health and response capabilities and training.
Time for public comment will follow the scheduled topics, but comments will be limited by the chair to only 3 minutes per person unless the Taskforce permits the time to be extended.
The Governor also plans to tour the C. O. Bastian Youth Center in Caliente from Noon till 1 pm.
