Obituary Notice
for
Ernst August Hirsch
October 17, 1946 - July 20, 2007
Ernie Hirsch was born October 17, 1946 in Bavaria, Germany, and passed away July 20, 2007 in St. George, Utah. He was 60 years old.
Ernie spoke fondly of growing up on the California beaches in the 1950’s and 60’s. He later moved to Las Vegas where he was an accomplished dry waller, taper and painter. His favorite career may well have been food service, as he worked in, and owned numerous restaurants over the years. He loved to prepare elaborate meals for his friends, and his catering abilities were unmatched.
After living in Goldfield, Ely, and Pioche, Nevada, for varying lengths of time, he settled permanently in Caliente in 2000.
Ernie loved to travel and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed frequent trips to the nearby mountains on his ATV with friends. His gifts to friends on or after vacations were generous to a fault. His booming laugh was known wherever he went.
He is survived by a sister, Ulla of Roseburg, Oregon, three daughters, a son, and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held September 22, at 1:00 pm at the Caliente Cemetery. An informal gathering will be held at VFW Post 7114 immediately following to celebrate his life.
