National Little Britches Rodeo
Gina Smith Contributing Writer
After the long week at the National High School Rodeo Finals in New Mexico, most contestants loaded up their trucks, trailers and horses to head for home to recoup. Not the Scott family. They turned right around and traveled to the National Little Britches Rodeo in Colorado from New Mexico! Shelby Scott competed in that finals and did another amazing job! This is huge event where there are 100 contestants or more in each event.
Scott competed in 5 events; trail course, goat tying, pole bending, and barrel racing. She placed well in the final results after 2 go rounds plus a short go round. In goat tying, Shelby took 31st , in trail course she took 11th overall! In pole bending, and barrel racing she finished very strong as well.
Kristin Wurtz from Alamo also attended the finals in Colorado. She competed in the same events as Shelby, (except for trail course) with again, great results. In break away, Kristen showed in 28th place, Barrel Racing in 60th place, and showed very well in Pole Bending and the Goat Tying event. Be sure to go online to www.nlbra.com to see the full results.
Scott described the two trips as " A lot fun and a neat experience!"
So much needs to be accomplished in order to attend the finals. You first must qualify on a state level before having the chance to compete on a national level. This involves competing and placing on a consistent basis in a series of events. The national level offers a great opportunity to nab one of the scholarships available. Through the rain, snow, mud and the almost camping feel, that opportunity, in the end, makes it all worth it!
Congratulations girls for a job extremely well done!
