Plans and dates have been set for LCAT, the Lincoln Communities Action Team, to have five demonstration tours in the month of October and early November, to invite and show selected county officials, city and town representative, plus certain officials and experts from Las Vegas, just what the county has to offer in the way of tourism for small groups. The tours are expected to consist of about 12 people.
The tour plans and outlines were given at a well-attended LCAT monthly meeting September 12, in Alamo. The tours will usually to be on a Monday or Tuesday, although Ed Higbee has a Monday and Tuesday set aside for the Alamo tour.
Two Lincoln County Commissioners will be invited to come along on each tour, although the same Commissioners don’t have to take part in every tour. LCAT chairman Keith Larson extended an invitation to all of the Commissioners at the Commission meeting Monday, but not all of them can attend each tour. A member of the Town Board from each of the communities in Lincoln County, and someone from the City of Caliente, are also to be invited.
The tours are a trial run to see how the plans all work out and to take input from those on the tours as to what additions or changes need to be made. Each community will then take the information and further seek to fine-tune the tours in order to better promote the m to the general public next spring and summer.
LCAT co-founder Holly Gatzke said the purpose of the tours are to “show ourselves and the county that we can create great tourism activities in this county for small groups and we are doing them now so we can seriously plan and think about setting up tours for next years tourist season, spring, summer and fall next year.”
Regarding inviting people from out of county, she said, “We have talked about inviting people from the Clark County Chamber of Commerce, the Las Vegas office of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Service, and others who are representative of the type of people who would want to come and buy a tour and see nature and history in Lincoln County.”
A list of names will be developed and invitations will be sent to “See who can come up when and come have a little tour with us,” she said.
The tours will be taken mostly in vans or private cars. However, in some places, Lincoln County Transportation has offered the use a bus for some of the activities.
The first tour will be Alamo on October 8-9 and will include an overnight stay. Caliente will have a tour on Monday, October 16. The tour in Panaca will be October 22, Rachel on October 29, and Pioche on November 5.
