Attorney John Brown, counsel for the City of Caliente, reported in a telephone conference at the regular city council meeting last Thursday, that the insurance company covering the city swimming pool will pay for repairs. The pool was damaged so much last winter it was unusable this summer. Initially, the insurance company had balked about being faced with the repair claim. Brown said negotiations have taken a long time.
A bid proposal was received last week from the insurance company and Brown advised council members to accept the proposal. The bid was submitted by the same contractor, Terra Ferma, who was working with the insurance company regarding damage done to the pool. Brown said the City had worked with the contractor and was comfortable with his estimates.
Council members approved a bid of $145,626 for repair work on the pool to be done and the contractor could be ready to begin work possibly even this week.
The State Health department has also been notified of the repairs to be done and Brown said they will come and make all the final reviews of the pool.
Freeze heaving last winter underneath the pool lifted the deck, cracked the bottom, damaged the deck drainage system, cracked and dislodged the in-pool skimmer baskets.
The new construction is expected to replace the existing pool with a new one, put in a new deck drainage system, build new restrooms and shower rooms, and build a larger pumping and maintenance shed.
