| Lincoln County moved into the boys 2A state championship game at the Lawlor Events Center last Friday by posting a 100-83 win over Silver State Academy/Rite of Passage.
Dantley Walker, the Lynx outstanding junior guard set two new 2A boys state records by hitting for 43 points and good on seven 3-point attempts. He also had 12 assists.
He broke his own single game scoring record of 36, set in 2008, oddly enough also against Rite of Passage.
The previous 2A record for three-point field goals made was six by Michael Wallace of The Meadows in 2007.
Walker admitted his shot was just not falling in the first quarter, but after that he said, “I just got into a zone and the basket looked the size of a garbage can, so I just kept putting it up and it kept goin’ in.” He made six of his seven three-pointers when the Lynx scored 36 points in the second quarter.
Eric Rippetoe had an outstanding game of his own for the Lynx with 35 points and 11 rebounds, to compliment what Walker was doing.
Coach Mike Wood said Walker was not even at full strength because he was recovering from effects of the flu which he suffered in the middle of the week. “We had two or three guys on the team sick.”
The Rams did make a 21-12 run at Lincoln in the third quarter, and Davontay Williams layup at the end of the period cut the lead to 74-66, but Rite of Passage could get no closer.
Tyler Wadsworth added 10 points for Lincoln.
Donnie Nelson, assistant executive director of the NIAA (Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association) said Lincoln’s 100 points was the second highest 2A total behind Lowry’s 117 set in 1974.
