LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Open Letter to the Citizens of Lincoln County:

This great country that we live in was founded on the principles of personal Liberty and responsibility.  We all understand the concept that “freedom isn’t free”.  We all watch and hope for great changes to take place at high levels of government that will make things better for all of us.  But in the long run, the place that we can best affect change is in our own lives, families and this close little community that we live in.

We are not sure of the author because it is so often quoted, but we are all familiar with the statement that “. . . for evil to prevail, all it takes is for good men to do nothing.”  Lincoln County is full of good men and women who understand good principles and the right way for government to work.  This letter is a call to all of you in this county to step forward, file for office, help in a campaign, voice your opinions, and most of all, exercise your power at the voting booth.

Many times in the past, we have had a number of offices that have no opposition.  Our ballots do not carry a None of the Above slot, so we either leave that spot blank or vote for someone merely because that is the only name there.  For our system of government to work properly, good men and women (many times of opposing philosophy) need to step forward and sound their voices.  It is unconscionable to have offices that no one files for or that there is no opposing voice for the people to chose from.

We are not advocating the nasty, vicious politicking that goes on in our larger races and the media circus, just a simple, quiet debate on sound principles.  Let us all work together to bring sanity and responsibility back into our government.  Let us each be accountable and hold those who are elected to office accountable for the oaths that they take.

Thank You,
Jule Wadsworth, Secretary
Lincoln County Farm Bureau
