Traffic Fatality on U.S. Highway 93

By Dave Maxwell

Lincoln County Sheriffs’ deputies and troopers from the Alamo office of the Nevada Highway Patrol were called to the scene of a fatal traffic accident in the early morning hours of September 27 near the gravel pit on U.S. Highway 93.

39-year old Scott Allen Monaco of Las Vegas, was a passenger in a southbound 1997 Ford Mustang and was ejected and killed in the one-car rollover about 3:45 am. Driver of the car was 42-year old Lisa Jo Bittel of Las Vegas. She was taken by LifeFlight to UMC hospital in Las Vegas with non-serious injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies and NHP Troopers responded along with PV Fire and EMS services. Monaco was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers reported the southbound car drifted off the east edge of the highway, down an embankment and overturned. Monaco, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and killed.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a coroner’s investigation and NHP is handling the accident. Cause of the accident is still under investigation. Ms. Bittel did submit to a voluntary blood draw at UMC. Results of the toxicology report are pending.
