County Chamber of Commerce Hers About LCAT Tours

By Dave Maxwell

The regular meeting of the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce was held October 9 in Caliente.

Kaye Medlin of Rachel reported on the Alamo tour, the first of the LCAT demonstration tours, held on October 8. She and her husband Jim participated with about 10 other people. She suggested that tour members be advised to bring along binoculars on upcoming tours LCAT is conducting the remainder of the month. Some of the places they were taken to, she said, you couldn’t get up to the actual site and binoculars would have improved seeing what was being pointed out by the tour guide. She also mentioned that nametags or introductions should have been made; she said she did not know the names of some of the people on the tour.

Other LCAT tours in the county are scheduled for: Caliente October 15, Panaca October 22, Rachel October 29, and Pioche on November 5. Anyone interested in participating in one of the demonstration tours is asked to call Holly Gatzke at 775-726-3109.

Discussion was held regarding the articles that are placed from time to time in the Las Vegas Review-Journal for the Chamber by Charter Advertising. It was mentioned that a collection of these should be gathered and displayed poster-size, at the Courthouse in Pioche for county residents to see.

Keith Larson, chairman of the Lincoln Communities Action Team (LCAT), informed the Chamber that there is a need for a “clearinghouse of events” happening in the County. He said LCAT is currently working on the idea. There are things that take place in communities around the county that seem to be just “local,” and “very few, if anybody else knows about them.” He thought an events “clearinghouse,” would be excellent content for the LCAT website that will be linked from/to the Chamber of Commerce website, when it gets up and running again.

A written report was read from County Planning Director Clint Wertz, announcing the Open Space Planning Team. The team is to help Lincoln County decide which of the BLM lands the County can choose from the Lincoln County Conservation and Recreation Development Act of 2004.

The next meting of the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will be Tuesday, November 13, at 9:30 a.m. at the Caliente BLM Field Station.
