No Local Firefighters Sent to Southern California
By Dave Maxwell

The Pioche office of the Nevada State Forestry said they have not yet sent any fire fighters to the blazes in Southern California. A spokesman said they did help with the fires there in 2003, but not yet this year.
Property damage from this week’s devastating fires in San Diego County total at least $1 billion. At least 1,200 homes have been destroyed in that county alone. To date about 1,500 have burned in the seven-county region of Southern California since Sunday
Forecasters said the strong Santa Ana winds which have fueled the fires are to diminish by late Wednesday afternoon. The shift was expected to allow for a greater aerial assault and help firefighters beat back the most destructive blazes.
