The picture shows the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Lexi Robinson and Carli Phillips offered to cut the ceremonial ribbon. Pioche studens are all excited to be on the new surface. The area alsohelps keep the school clean because there isn't the gravel and mud coming into the school there once was. |

Pioche Elementary has a new playground! Well Almost. They have much of their playground covered with Tot Turf. This product is under both eight foot slides and under the “jungle gm.” It is almost three inches of rubberized surface much like you might find on a rubberized track. It is designed to soften the fall of students who might otherwise get hurt. The playground is also now compliant with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Almost 2200 square feet of gravel was recently covered with fall resistant rubber. So many organizations and individuals came together to make this project happen. Jesse Howard and his Honor Camp crew prepared the ground and poured seven yards of cement. Aaron Boyce allowed them to come to the school with a very short notice. Jim Wilkin Trucking provided the “time” while crews moved a lot of wet cement by backhoe bucket and wheelbarrow to its resting place. Shonna Donahue, with the help of the crew, moved valuable sod from where the sidewalk would be poured to other places. Kelli Colyer from the USDA came and inspected the project. It takes an entire village …
Monies for the project came from generous grants from the United States Department of Agriculture, The E.L. cord Foundation, and the Eastern Star. It also came from individuals and the Pioche Parent Teacher Group.
