Alamo SNPLMA Bids To Be Opened

By Dave Maxwell

The Alamo Town Board has set November 14 as the date sealed bids from interested contractors vying for the contract to the Alamo Parks and Recreation plan are to be opened.

Alamo received $2.5 million in 2006 from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA) for the project and will use those funds for the construction of new rodeo grounds, softball field and a Children’s Park in the Yoppsville neighborhood. The engineering firm of Leslie and Associates in Cedar City, Utah, drew up the plans.

Board Chairman, Lonnie Walch, presented the architect’s drawings to the board at a recent meeting, showing that the existing rodeo facilities will be moved further west, and the new softball field will be constructed where the rodeo grounds are currently situated. This will be in addition to the already existing high school softball/Little League field. Walch said when it’s completed two games can be played simultaneously.

Twenty-one RV spaces are to be constructed with water and electric hook-ups near the new rodeo area, and can be expanded to handle between 70-80 vehicles. There will be new stalls for horses and a new grandstand facility which will have a seating capacity of 720. Large restrooms facilities will be added along with a larger, fully equipped concession stand.

It is expected that the construction company selected for the work will do both the fairgrounds and the Children’s Park at the same time.

The Children’s Park, at the east end of Theresa Street and Danielle Lane, will feature a T-ball field, volleyball court, paved parking area, playground area with sand boxes, wading pool with pop-up jets for added enjoyment, new playground equipment for both big and little kids, covered picnic area, restroom facilities, maintenance shed, walkway lighting and a number of other features.
