Update on Alamo Town Parks
By Dave Maxwell
When the bids were opened for the new rodeo grounds and Children’s park in Alamo, amounts were at least $1.5 million above the $2.5 million available in the towns SNPLMA grant.
County Grant Administrator Phyllis Robistow told County Commissioners at the December 17 meeting that County Engineer Chuck Brechler and Joe Leslie, engineer for the Alamo Parks Project, have met with the six bidders and discussed what can be cut in order to be under budget. However, she also said SNPLMA often has Special Account Reserve money that might be able to be used for extras if a project might need it. She said she would look into the possibility.
In addition, instead of using just one contractor to do both the rodeo grounds/softball fields and the Children’s Park, it might be that two contractors have to be employed, “because we had to go with the low bid on both projects,” Phyllis said.
Doing the rodeo grounds project is the more urgent job. That needs to be done first and completed by the early part of May so it can be used for the Wrangler National Junior Rodeo to be held there in June. The other parts of the projects can be done later.
